A native of Concord, Mass., I attended Phillips Academy, Andover, where I participated in the first-ever exchange program between U.S. and Soviet high school students. I studied Russian history and literature at Harvard as an undergraduate. After a number of years living and working in Russia, Washington, D.C., and Vermont, I returned to Harvard for a master's degree in education.
I went on to earn a second master's in education, this time from UMass Boston, through the newly-established teacher training program of the Boston Public Schools. I taught middle school in Brighton, Roxbury, and Somerville before shifting to high school. I spent the next six years at
Boston Latin Academy in Dorchester.
In 2013, my family and I moved to Peru, where I taught at Colegio Roosevelt, the American School of Lima. I also worked as a private tutor. Since August 2019, I have been residing in Northampton, Mass., where my son goes to Jackson Street School and I attend UMass Amherst as a Ph.D. student in English, with a focus on American Studies.
